Paris: Librairie Hachette et Cie, 1875. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. Filled with illustrations. Guizot (1787 - 1874) was a French historian, author, and prominent political figure before the Revolution. Illustrated by Alphonse Marie Adolphe de Neuville (1835 - 1885), a French painter who studied under Delacroix and frequently depicted patriotic subjects. Bound in three-quarter red leather over marbled paper covered boards with gilt titles and volumes to spines. Wear and some pulls to leather on spines, hinges, corners, and edges of boards; chipping to paper along edges of boards. Rubbing to covers of boards. Front hinge of first volume was torn, but has been repaired. All boards remain attached, but some hinges are starting. Sunning to spines; although, gilt remains bright. Light dampstain to margins of first and last few pages of first three volumes. Spots of foxing to interiors and to edges of textblocks. Marbled endpapers and top edges gilt. This is a heavy set and will require an additional shipping fee. Volume I: 578 pages; Volume II: 571 pages; Volume III: 564 pages; Volume IV: 570 pages; Volume V: 598 pages. FRE/112322.
