About This Item
London: Craddock and Joy, 1813. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo. 242pp; list of plates, 2 pp. of adverts. Engraved frontispiece illustration and fifteen other copper engraved plates. The plates were originally made for Tabart & Co, and are dated August 1805.. Tabart had published an edition, which wasnt dated with 16 copper plates. Some moderate wear; binding a little rubbed, some shelfwea, one engravings has some juvenile colour wash-see photo. A charming children's version of the classic adventure, uncommon in the original boards. . 'The first English novel', most likely based on the true story of the Scottish castaway Alexander Selkirk. Cohn, 701. Listed in 'The Novel 100' (Burt, 2004), also`in The Observer; All-Time 100 Best Novels (2003).
