Condition: Very good, with very light shelfwear to covers. Previous owners name(an art dealer) on front endpaper. Binding sound. The first edition of this book was published in 1948 when the full text of Haydon's journals was inaccessible. This revised edition contains a supplement in based on a comparison of Tom Taylor's abridgement with The Diary of Benjamin Robert Haydon edited by Professor W.B.Pope (Harvard 1960,1963), together with information about the strange vicissitudes of his pictures, notably the discovery and restoration of the lost masterpiece, The Judgement of Solomon..
