356 pp. + 12 pp ads. 1856 First Edition, First Issue, No mention of author on title page. Incredibly scarce, rare. Blue blind stamped cloth, gilt lettering on spine. Some wear top and bottom of spine, corners bumped and slight indent bottom edge front cover, minor staining on covers. Previous owner inscription Charles Butler, Eldorado, Ks. Freemont was the first presidental candidate for the new anti-slavery Republican Party. This book was probably issued to promote Freemont's bid. Book's owner, however, lived in Butler County, KS, named for pro-slavery advocate Andrew Butler, senator from SC. Relationship of names is not known.
