Chillicothe: Ely, Allen & Looker. Good+. 1850. First Edition. Hardcover. Blennerhassett was the wealthy Irish-American lawyer whose island in the Ohio River provided a staging area for Aaron Burr's conspiracy in 1806 and who also provided financial backing to Burr. Burr was charged with treason for attempting to start a war with a private army in what is now the south west United States. Burr was acquitted when the government could not prove its case. The tips of the covers are worn, and the head and tail of spine a bit perished, else a nice clean and tight book. Old owner name in pencil on rear end paper. Lacking one prelminary blank leaf. Frontis illustration is of Blennerhasset's Mansion on Blennerhasset Island in the Ohio River. Ref: Sabin 74878, Howes S13; Frontis; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 239 pages .
