Ex-lib, with few markings including remains of a small sticker on the spine, extremities worn, light to moderate soiling, else G. Angelo Mosso, (1846-1910) was a physiologist who made important investigations into human respiration and muscular fatigue at high altitudes, and was the first to study apnea. He also invented a sphygmomanometer for registering the blood pressure in the finger. See several entries for him in Garrison & Morton, MEDICAL BIBLIOGRAPHY, including this one, #950. (The Italian edition). The subject of this book is a study he undertook in 1894 at Monte Rosa, the highest point in the Pennine Alps, at an elevation of about 14,000 feet.
