London: Printed for S. Hooper, 1786. First edition. Hardcover. Modern black cloth backstrip lettered in gilt with marbled endpapers. Fine. VI, 228 (3) pages. 22 x 14 cm. Signed by author at end of Preface. Hyder Alie was the de facto ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore in southern India, or more famously known as "the Napoleon of South India" for his relentless fighting against the East India Company and their ambitions of expansion in South India. Having already fought a war with the East India Company, he was known far and wide for his gunpowder rockets. In the First Anglo-Mysore War he successfully defended his kingdom against a joint attack by the East India Company. Slight toning lower portion of first two leaves, owner inscription top title page. Glossary at rear defines Indian vocabulary.
