Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1849. Hardcover. Very Good -. Cruikshank, George. [4], viii, 236 p., frontispiece and 7 leaves of engraved plates; 19 cm. Dark brown/purple cloth with gilt-stamped spine title and cover title. Boards have yapp edges. Dark green-black endpapers. The author is D.M. Moir, cf. NUC pre-1956, 389:452. No date of publication; printed by Blackwood in Edinburgh (colophon), which printing office was established in 1847. Blackwood advertised a new edition of this title in 1849. The artist is referred to as simply George Cruikshank, rather than as "the late" George Cruikshank, suggesting that this was produced before his death in 1878. Former owner's name on front free endpaper: Duncan. Gift inscription on blank leaf following front endpapers: "With Mr & Mrs Murdoch's very best wishes. Dalkeith Dec. 23rd 1880." In Very Good- Condition: spine is faded; edges rubbed, with cloth starting to separate along back joint; ends of spine starting to fray; occasional foxing; otherwise, clean and tight.
