Alphonse Marie Louis de Lamartine (1790-1869) was a famous French poet, novelist, historian, biographer, and statesman. He competed unsuccessfully for the presidency of France with Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (later Napoleon III). After this loss he left politics and devoted himself entirely to writing, spending much of the remainder of his life in a hopeless effort to repay the fantastic debts he had accumulated in his youth. Many of our popular images of Columbus come from Lamartine. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! W145 Language: eng. Hardcover. Very Good.
