Brooklyn NY: Independence, 1956. First Edition. 8vo, pp. 226. Paper over boards. Frontis illustration. Cover little bumped and rubbed at edges, o/w a VG tight copy in worn dj. Childress [1916-1994] was born in Charleston, South Carolina, but at the age of nine, after her parents separated, she moved to Harlem where she lived with her grandmother. She became involved in theater immediately after her high school and she did not attend college.
