He began his literary career as sports editor of the Fenwick High School ( great football teams) newspaper and as an usher at baseball games ( probably the Sox), race tracks prize fights and political conventions ( lots of those). He graduated from The University of Michigan and went on to Cambridge on a Fulbright scholarship. he is known for his biographies of such diverse people as John Keats, L.F.
