About This Item
Oakland, CA: The Links, Inc, 1971. Very good.. Original program for the 1971 cotillion ball hosted by the Oakland-Bay Area chapter of The Links, an African American women's organization. The program gives an overview of the cotillion and the organization more generally, including large-scale portraits of all the debutantes as well as their escorts, a schedule of the event, buffet menu and snapshots of the debutantes at rehearsal and other social functions, as well as information on the philanthropic activities of The Links. A large section of the program consists of well-wishes from contributors and supporters of The Links, giving a sense of the business community in the Bay Area at that time. An interesting look at middle class African American culture immediately following the civil rights era. 11'' x 8.5''. Original textured wrappers with rainbow design. 174 pages. Spine and extremities toned. Minor edge-wear and small touches of soil. Spine creased. Interior clean.
