About This Item

Providence: Rhode Island Historical Society, 1918. Octavo. 155 pages. Only 200 copies were printed with details of every name of those from Rhode Island who served in the French and Indian War (1755-1762). Pages 3-17 gives a good history of the war and the major leaders from Rhode Island, for instance Col. Ephraim Williams was killed (his will established Williams College). The list includes several African-Americans who were known with the first name negro. On the other hand, Joseph Reed is listed only as "colored". Bookplate of John Carter Brown Woods who was on the board of Brown University. Bound in red cloth, spine lettering gilt but dull, corners lightly bumped, some light finger soiling. A very good copy of this very scarce work original edition.
