(8 1/8" x 4 7/8"); in the publisher's board backed in drab cloth with a partial publisher's label to the spine; xii, [13] 14-223 pages; lacking the front endpaper, but with a lovely engraved image of the building housing J. & J. Harper at the front of the book, followed by 2 pages of publisher's ads.~~With quite remarkable Scots dialect: "What could I do? My love had vanished like lightning; but oh, I was in a terrible gliff! Instead of gundy. I sold my thrums to Mrs. Walnut for a penny ... I wrote out a letter to the minister .. begging him not to believe Jess's word, as I was not able to keep a wife, and as she was a leeing gipsy." (page 3). Very Good binding.
