Octavo, xvi, 436pp. Blue paper boards, white vellum spine, title in gilt on spine. Blue endpapers, uncut edges. Tissue-covered frontispiece portrait of Byrd opposite title page. Multiple photographic illustrations, four maps with two fold-out maps at rear. From a deluxe limited edition of 1000 signed copies, this is number 727, signed by author Richard Byrd. (Conrad 253) (Taurus 114) An attractive example. Richard E. Byrd was an American naval officer and polar explorer. He was known for being the first explorer to reach the North Pole and South Pole by air, but those claims are disputed.
