Account of the failure of the Bank of the United States in New York, which was organized in 1913 and failed in late 1930, under the management of Bernard Marcus. In November and December that year, 608 American banks closed; the Bank of the United States accounted for a third of all deposits lost during that period. The run on its Bronx branch on December 10, 1930, is often cited as the bank run that started the Great Depression.
