Nice vintage copy of this classic inspirational children's tale, with 40 charming original watercolor illustrations by the author. Translated from the original French by Katherine Woods. With the single copyright date of 1943, this is a VERY early printing (1950s), with the publisher still Harcourt, Brace & Company" (would later change to "& World). ). NO crow, so not a true first/first. Condition is solidly VG: tan linen-covered boards are very clean, pages creamy white, with mild tanning, only 1 foxed spot on rear endpaper. Binding strong & straight. NO writing/underlining/highlighting. Only other flaw is a tiny stain to front cover near head of spine. The price-clipped DJ is all there, butdowngraded to only Fair, due to darkening & soil, heavy foxing to back cover. Moderate edgewear all around. many small chips & teeny holes, rubbing to extremities. Beautifully protected in new archival mylar cover. Please see our 5 photos!
