Good, no d/j, marbled boards, half-calf with gilt spine titling (illegible with much rubbing and front of spine half split); front guttering weak but text block firm; pages crisp and unmarked, with minimal foxing primarily on endpapers.. 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). Izaak Walton is best known today for The compleat Angler (first published in 1653). He was celebrated in his lifetime for his biographies, however, with the first on John Donne published in 1640 and Bishop Sanderson in 1678 (5 years before his death). Three at least of them were anglers (Donne, Wotton and Herbert) and all were known for their gentleness and piety.
