Full contemporary speckled brown calf, ruled in blind. Red morocco spine label, lettered in gilt. Spine elaborately stamped in gilt. Edges speckled in red. Boards and spine a bit rubbed. A two inch split at the bottom outer hinge of the front board and a three-quarter inch split at the top outer hinge of the front board. A previous owner's book plate of front pastedown. A very good copy.
"Cornelius Nepos, A Roman historian, a friend of Atticus and Catullus. His chief work was 'De Viris Illustribus', of which part survives." ( The Oxford Companion to English Literature, 574).
