Paris: Gumuchian & Cie. Book. Good. Cloth. Brick red/brown cloth, with titles in gilt on spines. No dustjackets. Condition: Good, although covers are shelfworn and spine and corners lightly bumped. Condition: Good, bindings sound, text clean. Some cockling to edge of frontispieces to both books. Light browning to page edges. Volume 1 has a watermark to the spine and back cover, not affecting text in any way. 446pp (Vol 1) and 336 plates (Vol II), mostly b/w, several in colour. Both volumes have been stamped and numbered in error at the bindery of the University of Chicago Library, i.e. a neat stamp on the reverse of the title page and and a small number stamped in blue on the first page of text in each book. The error is described in pencil thus: "stamped and numbered by mistake at University of Chicago Library. Books bound for FH at University of C libraries bindery and sent to accession department in error". Printed on "papier velin", one of 900 un-numbered copies. A catalogue of 15th to 19th century childrens books. Scarce. Images can be sent on request. NB: Text is in French throughout. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
