"To which is added, AN ESSAY ON THE DIFFERENT CAUSES OF PESTILENTIAL DISEASES, AND HOW THEY BECOME CONTAGIOUS: WITH REMARKS ON THE INFECTION NOW IN FRANCE, by John Quincy, M.D. Paper shows peripheral toning, never heavy. This copy does not include the fold-out "Table of Funerals" for the parishes of London. It is supplied in facsimile. Hodges (1629-1688) first wrote his account of the plague in Latin in 1672. John Quincy translated it into English in 1720, adding an essay on spread of the plague to France. Hodges was one of the few physicians who remained in London during 1665, to record observations and test the effectiveness of various treatments. According to Garrison-Morton 5121, Hodges was physician to the City of London and the medical hero of the great epidemic. 288pp. Please see photos.. First Edition. 1/4 Calf Over Marbled Boards.
