In a bright straight grain morocco binding, this is an attractive association copy of the first edition of Locker-Lampson's lyrics. An association copy of the uncommon first edition of Frederick Locker-Lampson's slender volume of poetry, in a lovely full straight grain morocco binding.With an illustrated frontispiece from caricaturist and illustrator George Cruikshank.With the armorial bookplate of Thomas Gaisford to the front pastedown. To a front blank is tipped in the 1895 newspaper clipping of the author's obituary in the Times. Gaisford writes to the head of this clipping: 'this is the first edition 1857 - in my library will be found also the edition [...] printed 1881 only 100 copies - and ed. 1872 - both of these were given to me by my friend the Author'.This work established Locker-Lampson's poetic legacy, and saw numerous further extended editions printed in his lifetime. In a straight grain morocco binding, with gilt detailing. Light discolouration to back strip, with a touch of rubbing to back strip head. Boards exceptionally bright. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Newspaper obituary to front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with significant spotting throughout. Very Good
