About This Item
London: Elkin Mathews, (1908). First edition thus. This is a near fine copy. The publishers mint green cloth is bright and mostly free from chips and marks, but with a bumped right-hand corner. The gilt titling at the front panel and spine is bright. The rough cut text blocks are free from foxing. The authors signature is present on the half title page in black ink: "To F. R. P, L.B. Oct. 1908". The recipient, Francis Robert Pryor was an English playwright and correspondent of Binyon's. When Pryor died, in 1937, Binyon would go on to write his obituary for The Times newspaper, which was printed on Thursday 16th December, 1937. This is a fine presentation copy and is in near fine condition.
The collected and augmented first edition of Binyon's 'London Visions' which was originally published in two volumes in 1895 and 1898 respectively. Other poems from this volume were published in 'Poems' which was printed by the Daniel Press in 1895. However, other poems are published here for the very first time.
