New York, D. van Nostrand, 1869.. Imperial folio (50x36cm). Pp. (ii), 50, (20) tables. Plus 13 engraved plates, of which 11 are double-page and 2 are oversized and folding, each spanning 5 panels. Steel engraved frontispiece portrait of Roebling. Hardcover, bound in full cloth mildly soiled, gilt lettering and gilt shelf-number to spine, sturdy cloth inner hinges somewhat cracked, shelf wear to edges and spine-ends. Plates are accompanied with small perforated library stamp, and are otherwise bright and crisp but for a dampmark, practically a tidemark, occurring along the outer quarter of leaves, as well as outer edge of cover. Overall a well preserved, presentable ex-lib copy in good condition. ~ First edition. Formerly in the possession of the Brooklyn Library with neat bookplate and very few stamps to that effect. Very rare masterwork.

Washington D.C.: US Govt. Printing Office, 1942. Colour poster (28 x 40 in). Professionally mounted, glazed, and framed using archival materials. Original creases from folding, bright and fresh. Excellent condition. An important Second World War poster promoting women in the wartime workforce, produced in 1942 by the War Manpower Commission. At the time, "Women in the War" was one of the most widely distributed images of a woman laboring in war production, unlike the "We Can Do It" poster, which was produced only for Westinghouse plants during a few weeks in 1943 and did not become iconic until the 1980s. "Among the many agencies President Roosevelt had created during the war was the War Manpower Commission, formed in April 1942 to oversee war labor issues in the military, industrial, and civilian sectors. And in June 1942, the Office of War Information was formed to manage the flows of news and propaganda about the war to the public. By 1943, when the labor shortage was most acute, the two…

While little is known of his life, he published one of the most important mathematics treatises in 'La Riga Matematica'. In this book, Fiammelli discusses his theories on trigonometry and the use of math in military and civil engineering. Fiammelli explains his techniques in using mat to determine water depths, measure long distances, and give context to architectural planning.

Description:
Fall River, Massachusetts: E. J. Perry Machinery Corp, 1950. Very Good. A group of eight industrial photographs in 8 x 10 and 10 x 8 formats. Blank on verso. Minor blemishes, nice condition. E. J. Perry Machinery Corporation was an industrial processing machinery manufacturer. Six of the eight photographs have visible plates from the company on the equipment - the other two fit based on type (many of these appear to be industrial drying equipment). A nice set of images of a Fall River, Massachusetts company. According to the April 23, 1945 issue of "Steel, the Magazine of Metalworking and Metal Producing" the company moved from New Bedford to Fall River. One of the images has the Fall River address on it, hence we've dated these images to circa 1950. The 1936 New Bedford directory shows a number of machinists in the company employ.

Description:
Middlesbrough: Hoods Fine Printers, on behalf of the author, 1930. Collection of 16 bound lithographs. Hardcover, 41cm x 28cm. Cream and orange cloth binding, with title and South Durham Cargo Fleet Steel stamped on the covers. Cards are slightly marked. Each titled on the tissue-guard. Titled tissue-guards are present for all 16 lithographs. Some of the tissue guards have very light folds, and the lithographs themselves are in near fine condition. Viva Talbot's importance as an industrial artist of great talent has largely been forgotten, but her unprecedented access to the British steel industry, primarily through her family connections, enabled her to achieve a degree of accuracy and depth that provides valuable historical, industrial, and artistic insight. Her recent small popularity has largely been empowered by the rediscovery of her talent and ability by Dr. Joan Heggie of Teesside University. Scarce.
