Sm. 8vo. 470,[18],pp. Original illustrated paper-covered boards. 1872's Lord Kilgobbin was Lever's last novel, set in old conservative Ireland with political antagonists fighting against a background of poverty, misery and decay. Heavy age wear and scuffing on binding. Head and tail of spine slightly chipped. Joints on front- and back board split, firmly holding. Front and rear endpapers with printed advertisements. Signed and dated by previous owner on verso of title-page. 18 page list of publisher's 'select novels' in rear of book. Binding in fair to poor, interior in overall very good condition. Anglo-Irish novelist Charles Lever (1806-1872) died the same year the work was published. Scarce new edition of this powerful novel.
