London: Sampson Low, Son, & Marston,, 1869. First edition, first impression, this copy from the library of esteemed collector and Swiss lawyer Silvain S. Brunschwig, with his morocco book label to the pastedown of vol. I. Brunschwig's extensive English and American literature collection was sold in his sale at Parke-Bernet, 9 April 1951, of which this book was lot 9. This is a handsomely bound set of Blackmore's most enduring work, and a high spot of 19th century literature. Three volumes, octavo. Handsomely bound in red half calf, titles gilt to black calf labels to spine, raised bands and compartments tooled in gilt, marbled sides, edges, and endpapers. Housed in a custom red slipcase. Bookplate of Helen B, Taylor to pastedown of vol. III. Spines sunned with some rubbing, labels potentially renewed, repair to joints, occasional spot of foxing to contents, neat repair to p. 49 of vol. I. Bound without half-titles and advertisements.
