About This Item

Santa Monica: Smart Art Press, 2010. First Edition. Softcover. New. New copy. First Edition. 68 pages, Softcover, 4.5 x 6.5 inches, 2010. ISBN #9788461427772. White Wine Press No. 12. . Antonio Eligio Fernandez (Tonel) looks at Cuban Cinema produced during the golden period of the Revolution and the ways in which it chose to portray the city of Havana, calling particular attention to the work of three black film.makers: Guillén, Giral and Sara Gómez. He concludes by examining its influence on the work of contemporary Cuban video artists.. . In English and in Spanish. The book can be turned upside down and read in the reverse direction for the two different versions.. . Antonio Eligio Fernandez (Tonel) is an artist, Critic, and curator born in Havana, Cuba. He has been an adjunct professor of studio art at the Art History, Visual Arts and Theory Department of the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada. He has taught at the Center for Latin American Studies and the Art and Art History Department, Stanford University, and starting in 1987 he was a tutor at the Facultad de Artes Olasticas del Instituto Suoerior de Arte in Havana, where he worked with individual students as the main advisor for their thesis.. . White Wine Press is a series of texts, one hundred being the goal, as an open project that seeks to wander a world. We are looking simply for those voices that have an urgency of saying. The artists are free to write about any subject, preferably about something outside the overwhelmingly present frames of their own work, or at least to come at the same in tangential fashion. In other words: state an interest. . . The texts will be published in the original language and in an English translation. If the texts are written in English, they will be accompanied by a Spanish translation and thus cover two large linguistic areas. Our basic animal condition, as Charles Olson put it, is move/meant. We are now in movement and thank the artists for providing state/meant. There is no story that is not true.
