Orig. published in 1917, this is one of a series of reprints from HarperCollins, published in the late 20th century in conjunction with Books of Wonder bookstore in New York City, whose co-founder, Peter Glassman, adds an Afterword here. This is from 1998, the 7th printing. These editions retain the original story & all of the lovely pen-and-ink illustrations by the original artists, (here, John R. Neill), as well as bring back the 11 sumptuous full-page, full-color plates that he did for the original. Hardcover 8vo has glossy red decorative paper over boards with a replication of the original front paper pastedown. It is an Ex-Lib copy, with just a few stamps & markings in front matter, magic markered out at top & bottom exterior page edges. Condition is VG: aside from a few smudges on some page from previous readers, it is as clean as brand new! Binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages bright white & unmarked. Exterior shows mild bumping to corners. The unclipped DJ, having been protected under library mylar, is Near Fine, marred only by a touch of spine fading. A beauty!
