Collection of "love stories adapted from interviews" conducted by the author, 1973-1976, with a cross-section of Black Americans. Author was a pioneering Black reporter at the Washington Post & New York Times & had written one novel prior. Orig. appearing in Essence magazine, this is the FIRST EDITION, First Printing, in book form from Anchor, 1978 (please note: other publishers are reprints). Hardcover 8vo has a black cloth wrapped spine, lettered in bright gilt, with brown paper over the remaining boards. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright save for small coffee-colored smudge to fore edge side of 10 pages in one chapter. Binding strong & straight, pages creamy white & unmarked with a hint of tanning & a little roughness/tiny chips to fore edge. The unclipped DJ is also Near Fine, with 2 teeny chips at both ends of spine, else colorful & bright with no edgewear or fading; nicely protected in new mylar cover Free!
