CHANG, David & MEEHAN, Peter & YING, Chris (ed).

Lucky Peach: a quarterly journal of food and writing [issues 1-24/25, a complete run]
Issues 1-9: San Francisco : McSweeney's, 2011-2012.  Issues 10-24/25: Lucky Peach : New York, 2014-2017.

Quarto (265x210mm) illustrated stiff card wrappers, 96-208pp per issue, usually 144-176pp, inserts as published laid in, various distribution formats, all first editions. Most copies, some faint to light shelfwear, generally very good or better, blemishes noted below per issue

Founded by chef David Chang, the chef/patron of the eponymous ground-breaking New York restaurant Momofuku (translates as "lucky peach") with editors Peter Meehan and Chris Ying and supported by Anthony Bourdain's media company, Zero Point Zero Productions, and McSweeney's, Lucky Peach was an extraordinarily influential gastronomic journal, that even today defies easy categorisation.

Publishing iconic, ephemeral, eclectic, gonzo-esque, challenging, irreverent, authoritative culinary writing, (or as the editors said on occasion, "what ever we wanted") Lucky Peach was the 'it' magazine for chefs, food creatives, hospitality and gourmands world wide for just over six years.  No subject was taboo.  Each issue was complimented by edgy and challenging design, illustration and photography.   In some ways, Lucky Peach is best described as 'the illegitimate child' of its founders; made in their own ever changing, creative image.

Contributors included Harold McGee, Ivan Orkin, Juan Mari Arzak, Anthony Bourdain, Ferran Adria, Naomi Duguid, Mario Batali, Alison Roman, Danny Bowien, Fuchsia Dunlop, Rachel Khong, Michael Pollan, Massimo Bottura, Magnus Nilsson, Anissa Helou, Andy Ricker, Alice Waters, Jonathan Gold, Michael Twitty, Gabrielle Hamilton, Dorie Greenspan, Chad Robertson, René Redzepi, Christina Tosi, Andrea Nguyen, Jim Meehan and many more.

A highly significant popular culture culinary journal that ended as abruptly as it started.   A very good set.  The first five volumes are particularly scarce and sets uncommon.
