About This Item
This is the leather-bound luxury edition of Lust for Life, a novel about Vincent Van Gogh first published in 1934. It was written by the American author Irving Stone (1903-1989) and was his first book. It is based on the letters between Vincent and his brother Theo. It includes origin stories for many of Van Gogh's most famous paintings, and discusses his difficult life and success. The novel became an Oscar-winning film starring Kirk Douglas.
This copy was printed in 1937 by the Heritage Press. It is bound in red leather with gold on the cover and spine. 400 pages, including illustrations. Bound-in silk bookmark.
This book has clearly never been read, or even opened. As you can see, it is missing a tiny piece of leather at the bottom of the spine. Other than that, it is in pristine condition.
Synopsis
Irving Stone was born in San Francisco on July 14, 1903. He wrote several books in a genre that he coined the “biographical novel,” which recounted the lives of well-known historical figures. In these novels, Stone interspersed biography with fictional narrative on the psychology and private lives of his subjects. He also wrote biographies of Clarence Darrow and Earl Warren, and short biographies of men who lost presidential elections. He died on August 26, 1989.
