No markings inside or out; binding is solid and square. 387 pages, with appendices, company rosters, and index. From the new introduction to this reprint edition: "The Lyon Campaign In Missouri is a memoir of the First Iowa Infantry Regiment in the Civil War. This volunteer force of 959 officers and men was all that President Abraham Lincoln had requested of young Iowa, only gotten years into its statehood, at the outbreak of the rebellion, when the Commander in Chief believed he was dealing only with"combinations to powerful to be suppressed by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings.... But in those desperate, early weeks of the war, the regiment helped to secure the strategic Hannibal and St Joseph Railroad in northern Missouri, them underwent punishing forced marches across the state, to distinguish itself finally at Wilson's Creek, one of the bloodiest pitched battles every fought on American soil....
