Kibble. pp. xviii, 189. Illustrated. Protected in new mylar. This is the apparent first issue with no list of recipients printed below the plate of the Patterson Memorial Cup opposite page [x]. Light brown boards have only the title, author and publisher listed on the spine and the title and author on the front board. This copy is not bound in the so called red bandana cloth with the oval portrait. The binding has very minor stains, scuffs and is slightly cocked. Previous owner's gift inscription in pencil on the front free end paper. Internally a clean copy with very slight browning on the title and frontispiece. Poems by the Poet Laureate of North Carolina most written in African American Southern dialect. A scarce first issue.
