Slightly worn contemporary full red morocco, blindstamped spine with raised bands, edges gilt (Georg’s Bristol). From the library of Claude Delaval Cobham, with his bookplate on front paste down. Claude Delaval Cobham (1842-1915) was a British colonial official in Cyprus, serving as as District Commissioner of Larnaca from 1879. He presented various Cypriot antiquities to the British Museum between 1880 and 1898, and became one of the leading antiquarians on Cyprus and, using his command of numerous local languages, he was one of the first scholars to attempt to systematise the study of the island's documentary history in his ”Excepta Cypria. Materials for a history of Cyprus” (1908).
