About This Item
West Hollywood: The Shakespeare Society of America, 1972. Poster, 35x11.5" silkscreen printed in three colors on thick, yellow stock. Signed by Newman in the image and dated in 1971. Pinholes at corners, dates changed at bottom with pasted on labels, else nicely preserved. Will ship tightly rolled as found.
Tremendous image, in an interesting, long format, from the prolific California artist, Earl Newman. Shortly after this poster was made, Newman would move to Summit, Oregon where he still lives and works. The artist is most well known for his silkscreen posters he produced for the Monterey Jazz Festival in the 60s. This poster is for a production of Macbeth by the Shakespeare Society of America, likely in 1972. We cannot find mention of this particular work by Newman elsewhere.
