London: FABER and Faber, 1950 SIGNED Copy. Blue cloth boards with gilt titles to spine, 205x140mm approx. 142pp. 26 charming b/w illustrations by Kennedy (many full page) featuring the author's own Scottie dog. There is an element of fantasy and magic in the book, but fantasy and magic are always present in the house of a writer of fairy tales, and Macduff shares this secret world. A departure from Alison Uttley's normal children' & country books;- title now quite uncommon. The copy offered by us for sale has the added attribute of being warmly inscribed byAlison Uttley in ink to the half title page to a fellow lover of scottie dogs and dated July 1954. Good/Good ( Book- Moderate foxing to preliminary pages and 78 to 88 have rust like marks diminishing in intensity from 82-83 outwards probably from ingression of iron filings at some time. (please see our images for the worst affected pages) Dust Jacket- 40mm approx tear to bottom front panel near spine fold and 8x4mm approx chip to tail of spine. Lesser small tears and general rubbing to extremities with a little light foxing showing through but remains quite respectable in removable proprietary protective cover. One for the Collector.
