About This Item

London, England: Faber & Faber, 1984. This book is the chronicle of an American family moving inexorably towards dissolution, an unforgettable re-shaping of America's contemporary myths. A succession of voices, Jean, Mitch, Danner and Billy, moves a spellbinding narrative through the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's towards the national cataclysm of Vietnam. The years of which they speak come to life, unfolding a poignant story of love and sorrow, of ordinary Americans in the palm of time and destiny. 'Jayne Anne Phillips' novel conveys as no other fiction has yet done, the meeting of a generation of small-town Americans with their first impact of the outside world - the Vietnam war. Top corner of cloth bumped. Slight shelf wear to top edge of D/J.. First Edition. Cloth. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardback.
