About This Item

New York, NY: Thomas Y. Crowell Company, 1973 Thomas Y. Crowell Company, New York. 1973. Hardcover. First Printing by Line Number. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Fine. No DJ. Slipcase; Near Fine; light wear to bottom surface. Brown leatherette boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine and front board. Slipcase solid and square. 332 pp 8vo. The second in a retrospective series by Dun and Bradstreet that focuses on significant socioeconomic events and trends of the past decades and their effect on business. This book centers on George Strong, a NY lawyer, as he looks at 1850 and the future. What he could not foresee was the economic transformation that was to take the country form an agrarian nation to a budding industrial one. The growth of railroads, newspapers, and credit went along with America's new industrial might. Machines and morality would be the major concerns in the 1850s. Followed by money and social reform. A clean pristine copy.
