José Alberto Seabra Carvalho writes on a Portuguese commission of Michelangelo. The catalogue is divided into two main sections: images of Mary in Italian collections from antiquity to the twentieth century, and Italian images of Mary in Portuguese collections, fifteenth to eighteenth centuries.
