About This Item

Concord: Mercury Press, 1963. Book. Good to Very Good. Paperback. Digests. The complete 12-issue run from January through December of 1963, of the best sf magazine in the world. This lot contains fiction by many of the genre's top names, including Richard Matheson, Vance Aandahl, James White, Mack Reynolds, L. Sprague de Camp, Frederik Pohl, Fritz Leiber, Henry Slesar, Harry Harrison, Richard McKenna, Miriam Allen deFord, Terry Carr, Ray Bradbury, J.G. Ballard, Poul Anderson, Robert A. Heinlein, Ray Nelson, Joanna Russ, Zenna Henderson, Alfred Bester, Roger Zelazny, Damon Knight, Avram Davidson, and many others. Highlights include the May issue, which is a tribute to Ray Bradbury, and contains two stories by him); 'Glory Road', a three-part novel by Robert A. Heinlein, spread over the July/August/September issues; three stories by the incomparable Richard Matheson; and the first appearance of Roger Zelazny's classic, "A Rose for Ecclesiastes." Also contains regular columns by the likes of Isaac Asimov (science) and Avram Davidson (books), with eight covers by Ed Emsh (Emshwiller), and one each by John Pederson, Jr., Joe Mugnaini, Chesley Bonestell, and Hannes Bok (a gorgeous wraparound effort illustrating Zelazny's classic). All issues are G or VG, with January issue missing a 2" long x 5/8" high strip along bottom edge of front cover, and the rest with the usual minor flaws (light corner/spine end wear, short edge tears, smudging, previous owner's names, and so on). Ten issues have small circles beside titles on contents page, presumably suggesting that a previous owner had read the story indicated..
