About This Item

Maestricht [Maastricht]: de l'imprimerie de Th. Nypels, 1807. Broadside (16.25 x 13.5 inches). FIRST EDITION. In order to combat the greed, disorder, and swindles of the fishmongers of Maastricht, the mayor and prefect (who both sign their names in type and date them 1807 at the foot of the proclamation) here publish the ten articles of regulation of the Maastricht fish market - down to the sorting and display of particular kinds of fish, the regulation of public auction, or when vendors might circulate to sell their fish outside the marketplace. Docketed in pencil with the date 9 April 1807 on the verso. Nypels was the official city printer as well as a Maastricht bookseller. Fold lines; some light soiling and wear; in very good condition.
