About This Item

Paris: Société du Livre d'Art, 1923. Limited Edition. Wraps. Very good. Jacquemot, Charles. No. XI of XXV copies on Japon imperial (Japan vellum), octavo size, 112 pp., with an extra suite of plates, all illustrations signed in pencil by the artist. Adrien Pierre Bagarry was a French Impressionist and Modern artist (1898-1949); we find no other written works by him online. Charles Jacquemot (1879-1946) was a fairly prolific French artist, whose works can be found within auction records.

This poem consists of seven élégies, with eight full-page cuts bound in, each signed below the plate in pencil by the artist. There is also an additional suite of cuts, again, each signed below the plate in pencil. Not only did the artist sign all of the illustrations, but on the half-title page is an inscription (partially erased) signed by him, and on p. 47 are four lines written by him.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in the original wraps with a small illustration on the front wrap which is in addition to the eight contained therein, lettering in red and black on the front wrap, fore- and bottom edges uncut, inscription by the artist on the half-title page (as noted above) in blue ink, limitation statement on the verso of the half-title with the artist's signature in black, this no. XI of XXV deluxe copies, title page a mirror of the front wrap, four lines in blue ink on p. 47 in the same hand as the artist's inscription, the eight cuts bound in throughout and each signed in pencil, one additional small illustration on the printer's page with a small pencil notation (printer's initials?); large octavo size (9 5/8" by 7 3/8"), pagination: [1-14] 15-[112] (note that illustrations and blank pages are included in the pagination). Accompanied by an additional suite of plates, each signed in pencil below the plate.

___CONDITION: Very good overall, although the wrap is worn (see details below) the interior is near fine; structurally sound, the interior clean with some signatures unopened, and the only markings we see those by the artist as set forth above; the wrap was restored at some point in the past with a replacement spine and a small chip out of the lower front wrap replaced with Japan tissue, the entire wrap with overall edgewear and light toning/soiling; the extra suite of plates near fine, clean, with light wear along the right margins.

___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.
