The Columbus community sprang from the first American Dominican foundation in St. Cahtherine, Kentucky, when the Kentucky foundation was only eight years old. It was American in all its aspects. The Dominican bishop who sponsored the Sisters was the American Fenwick; the entire first band of eight women was American born, this in a day when most teaching religious in the United States had come from France or Ireland or Belgium.".
