About This Item

London: Faber and Faber, 1950.. First edition. 8vo. 227, (1) pp. Publisher's red cloth, dust jacket affixed to the book at the flaps, ex libris Chelsea College of Physical Education with a few of their markings. Printed college envelope mounted to the front free endpaper containing a five page letter dated July 1950 from a Chelsea College post graduate student of the name Razia S. Birlas[?], who also signs off as an official of the University of the Punjab, Lahore. Map frontispiece. Jacket is edge worn with small losses, else very good. The handwritten letter gives the address of Chelsea College as "Denton Road, Eastbourne" and it is openly addressed to "Dear Readers...". In the letter he highly praises the book and the effort he thinks the author took to provide what he considers an impartial description of the turbulent start to Pakistan's independence. He closes: "I hope to recommend the book to all the libraries in Pakistan"
