Kuala Lumpur: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, 1983. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/very good. This book came out of the UNESCO Malay Cultural Study Project started in 1975. UNESCO defined the term 'Malay' as all Austronesian peoples in the archipelago. The purpose of the project was to produce a handbook of all the languages spoken by these peoples. The author was responsible for the Malaysian section of the project. In this book she gives an outline of all the 23 languages spoken by these peoples in Malaysia, including those of indigenous peoples in Borneo, but not those on the peninsula. There is also an ethnographic sketch of each community. 682 pages Weight 1.2kg Post free within Malaysia Apart from a minimal amount of dirt and spotting on the text block, the book looks new

Description:
Kuala Lumpur: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, 2008. First edition. Hardcover. New. One might think that Malays, from what is now Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, only migrated to Australia in modern times. However due to Malays often being seafarers from a land mass near Australia, groups have been arriving in Australia, Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands for some time. In this book a leading linguist looks at how these immigrants have settled in their new homes and the extent to which, if any, their culture and language has changed. New Hardback.
