Text in the original German by Veronica Minder and Bjorn Koll, with felicitous translations in French and English. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Berlin, Germany to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is exemplary in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Presents "Werner Bandi: Swiss Nudes 1943-1952". A belated and welcome re-discovery from a not-too-distant past: Idealized male nudes that hark back to the Pictorialist tradition and look towards Modernism at the same time. As such, they are among the most stunningly beautiful male nudes ever produced. Werner Bandi was a self-taught, amateur photographer (like Wilhelm Von Gloeden before him, among many talented others) . His vision of the male nude is Alpinist-Edenic: Almost all of the photographs feature the same model Bob Steffen, his Adonis-handsome muse, lover, and lifelong companion, as Adam (without Eve) . The splendor of the Swiss Alps is not just evoked, it is merged by the photographer with his subject, Man and Nature as One. Bandi was in love with his native Switzerland as much as with Bob. Almost all of the images are full-frontal nudes, which make them ahead of their time (and in some respects, ours) in their uninhibited celebration of the male body. For why not? The Greeks showed us the way. It is therefore interesting that many modern and contemporary photographers of the nude still feel the need to hide (as if in shame) rather than to show (with pride and without any inhibition) . Werner Bandi shows us the way. An absolute "must-have" title for Werner Bandi collectors. This title is a contemporary erotic art photography classic. The photographs were taken between 1943 and 1952, but they were only recently re-discovered and published, in 2015. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare copy thus. 50 black-and-white and color plates. One of the most brilliant photographers of the male nude. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 3944627032.
