Cloth hardcover; viii,81pp; illus; frontispiece and three inserted leaves of photographic plates (halftones) not reckoned in pagination. Contemporary gift inscription to front endpaper; slight toning to prelims; Near Fine, lacking the dustwrapper.
A seminal work in its field, regarded as "...the first book dedicated to documenting the work of an excavation and the development of its methodology" (see Jeffrey Zorn, "William Frederic Badé" in Biblical Archaeologist, March 1988). Badé was Director of the Palestine Institute of Archaeology at Berkeley; he was also an early President of the Sierra Club and served as the literary executor for the estate of Sierra Club founder John Muir.
