The Manuale Typographicum was set in 16 languages with the types of D. Stempel Ag at Frankfurt am Main and historic faces taken from that foundry's archives. Zapf drew 100 examples from the creative genius of such artists as Gill, Rogers, Baskerville, and Bodoni, and quotations from the works of such literary minds as Cicero, Dickens, Hugo, and Huxley.
