Pastedown title: A Map of Moosehead Lake, And the Principal Localities of Interest in its Vicinity
Case Map. Fold-out map: 5 7/8" x 9 ¼"; 5 3/8" x 9" within the neat line; gilt-stamped maroon ribbed cloth over board; pastedown tourist information; fold-out map with two folds; inset bird's-eye-view of Mt. Keneo; Scale of Miles; sunning to case, small splits at map folds, light soiling and chipping of outer edge; very good minus. Scarce. Not in Williamson. WorldCat locates one copy at the University of Maine, Orono. Published as a tourist map, the text on the pastedown gives instructions on reaching the Moosehead Lake region by rail and steamer. Notes the names of railways, steamer companies, hotels in Greenville and lake steamers. The railways lead the way to the area becoming an important vacation and sporting area for hunting and fishing in the mid-19th century, and a favorite of the wealthy who established camps in the area.
The map includes other bodies of water in the area: Burnham Pond, Fitzgerald Pond, Lobster Lake, Lucky Pond, Mud Pond, Spencer Pond, Ragged Lake, Roach Pond, Lower Wilson and Upper Wilson; Churchill Stream, Kennebec River; Moose River; West Branch Penobscot River; Roach River; River Socatean; Williams Stream. Mountain Ranges identified: Mt. Keneo inset; Spenser Mt., and Squam Mt. Range. The map also identifies three house structures: Lane's, Keene's, and one labeled "House".
