The rare and precious maps of Cyprus were printed and circulated throughout Europe, and contain important information concerning both mapping itself as well as the centuries-long and disturbed history of Cyprus; such as, for example, the description of Greek place-names before and after the conquest of the island by the Turks in 1571. Apart from maps of Cyprus, there is in the folder another notable group of maps of the Mediterranean and the Near East, including Cyprus. In these are illustrated important historical events, such as the journey of Aeneas from Troy to Rome linked with that of Odysseus from Troy to Ithaca, the march of Alexander the Great to Asia and the course of the missionary journeys by the Apostle Paul.
